Description

Irresistible Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies for Sweet Moments

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1.5 sticks unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1.5 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • red gel food coloring
  • pink gel food coloring
  • sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
  3. Cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated, about 1 minute.
  5. Combine the flour mixture with the creamed butter mixture on low speed, mixing until dough is well combined, about 2 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 2 equal pieces. Roll each piece on a lightly floured parchment paper until about 1/8-inch thick.
  7. Cut the dough using heart-shaped cookie cutters, placing them on the prepared baking sheets about 1 inch apart.
  8. Rework the dough scraps by combining them, re-rolling, and cutting again.
  9. Bake the cookies until just barely golden around the edges, rotating halfway through, for 12 to 14 minutes.
  10. Cool the cookies completely on wire racks before decorating.
  11. Whisk together confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla in a medium bowl until smooth for the icing.
  12. Split the icing into two bowls; add red gel food coloring to one and pink gel food coloring to the other, stirring until blended.
  13. Drizzle a small amount of each color over the white icing, and use a toothpick to create a marbled effect.
  14. Dip each cooled cookie face-side down into the icing.
  15. Maintain the marbling by adding more red and pink icing as needed.
  16. Decorate with sprinkles (if using) before letting the icing fully set, about 4 to 5 hours.
