Description

A quick and easy Szechuan beef stir-fry that brings sweet and spicy flavors to your table in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 medium red bell pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chili oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large ziplock bag, combine sliced flank steak with cornstarch, mirin, and soy sauce. Toss well to coat. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the sauce ingredients: chili oil, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, hoisin sauce, and light brown sugar. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the marinated beef and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, sauté the chopped red bell pepper, ginger, and garlic for 3-4 minutes until tender and fragrant.
  5. Return the beef to the pan, add the sauce, and stir well. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

  • Optional: Pair with steamed white rice or cauliflower rice for a complete meal.
  • You can customize the dish by adding more vegetables like broccoli or snow peas.
  • Adjust chili oil according to your spice tolerance.
