- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 stalk celery, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup chicken or seafood stock
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Combine the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne. Let it sit while you prepare the sauce.
- Heat the butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and celery; sauté for 5-7 minutes. Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds.
- Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add the smoked paprika, cayenne, thyme, and oregano. Pour in the stock and Worcestershire sauce; simmer. Add hot sauce, salt, and pepper; simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- In a separate skillet, heat remaining olive oil over medium-high. Sear marinated shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and opaque.
- Add cooked shrimp to the sauce and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes.
- Ladle shrimp and sauce over rice, creamy grits, or bread. Garnish with parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
