Description

Delicious Meringue Trees: Easy, Festive Holiday Treats

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pieces Egg Whites (Use room temperature for the best volume.)
  • 1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar (Optional but recommended for a more stable meringue.)
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar (Superfine sugar can enhance texture.)
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla or Almond Extract (Feel free to use other extracts.)
  • a few drops Green Gel Food Coloring (Avoid liquid colorings.)
  • as needed Nonpareil Sprinkles (Optional, to mimic Christmas ornaments.)
  • as needed Star Sprinkles (Optional toppings for a whimsical touch.)
  • for dusting Powdered Sugar (For a snowy effect.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Clean your mixing bowl with vinegar to ensure it’s grease-free.
  4. In a stand mixer, beat 4 room temperature egg whites on medium speed until foamy.
  5. Add 1/2 tsp of cream of tartar to the foamy egg whites, then continue mixing until soft peaks form.
  6. Gradually add 1 cup of granulated sugar while mixing, increasing the speed to medium-high until stiff peaks form.
  7. Add 1/2 tsp of your chosen extract and a few drops of green gel food coloring, mixing until well incorporated.
  8. Fit a piping bag with an open star tip and lightly brush the inside with green food coloring.
  9. Pipe three dollops on the prepared baking sheet, stacking them to form tree shapes.
  10. Sprinkle with nonpareil sprinkles and a star sprinkle on top of each tree.
  11. Bake for 90 minutes, then turn off the oven and let cool inside for an additional hour.
  12. Check for dryness; if still moist, leave them in the oven for an extra 30 minutes.
  13. Before serving, dust the meringue trees with powdered sugar.
