A guide to making a delicious Garlic Sauce Pizza at home, featuring a creamy garlic sauce base, mozzarella, Parmesan, and your favorite toppings. This recipe offers a flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce pizzas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups (420g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • Optional toppings: cooked chicken, mushrooms, spinach, roasted red peppers

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Lightly grease a bowl with olive oil. Place dough in the bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch Down and Divide: Gently punch down the dough. Turn it onto a floured surface and divide it in half.
  6. Second Rise (Optional): Cover dough portions and let rest for 15-20 minutes for an airier crust.
  7. Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  8. Sauté the Garlic: Add minced garlic and olive oil to melted butter. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden.
  9. Add Seasonings: Remove from heat. Stir in Parmesan cheese, parsley, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well.
  10. Let it Cool Slightly: Allow the garlic sauce to cool slightly before using.
  11. Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Place a pizza stone in the oven if using.
  12. Shape the Dough: On a floured surface, stretch or roll out dough into a 12-inch circle.
  13. Transfer to Baking Sheet or Pizza Peel: Carefully transfer shaped dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a pizza peel.
  14. Apply the Garlic Sauce: Spread garlic sauce evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a border for the crust.
  15. Add the Cheese: Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the garlic sauce.
  16. Add Optional Toppings: Add your favorite toppings.
  17. Bake the Pizza: Slide pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  18. Garnish and Serve: Remove pizza from oven, let cool for a few minutes, garnish with fresh basil, and serve immediately.
