Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 1 ounce taco seasoning, low sodium
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 13.8 ounces of pre-made pizza dough
- 1 egg (for egg glaze)
- 1 tablespoon of water (for egg glaze)
- Lettuce (for serving)
- Avocado slices (for serving)
- Taco sauce (for serving)
- Sour cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain any excess grease.
- Return the beef to the skillet. Stir in the salsa, taco seasoning, and water. Simmer until the mixture thickens.
- Roll out the pre-made pizza dough onto the parchment-lined baking sheet, forming it into a rectangle.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese down the center of the dough.
- Layer the beef mixture on top of the cheese, then sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the beef.
- Using a pizza cutter, cut about 12 strips along both sides of the dough, from the filling outwards.
- Fold one dough strip over the filling from one side, then fold a strip from the opposite side over it, alternating until you have a braided appearance.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water to create an egg glaze.
- Brush the egg glaze over the entire braided dough.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and crisp.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before cutting into pieces. Serve warm with optional toppings like lettuce, avocado slices, taco sauce, and sour cream.
Notes
- Drain the ground beef thoroughly to prevent the Cheesy Taco Braid Beef from becoming soggy.
- Customize your Cheesy Taco Braid Beef by adding other ingredients like black beans, corn, or diced bell peppers to the filling.
- Store leftover Cheesy Taco Braid Beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
- You can prepare the filling and braid the dough in advance, then cover and refrigerate until ready to bake.
- For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free pizza dough.
