Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, very soft
- 3 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 0.25 oz package rapid rise yeast
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 cup butter, VERY soft
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 and 1/2 cups pecan halves
- 1/2 cup pecans, roughly chopped
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, heat milk until it boils. Remove from heat, add butter, stir until melted, and let cool to 115-120 degrees F.
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine 2.5 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Whisk.
- Whisk in the egg, then slowly pour in the milk/butter mixture. Mix well.
- Using the dough hook, add remaining flour 1/4 cup at a time until dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes on medium speed.
- Place dough in a bowl, cover, and let rise for 60 minutes or until doubled.
- In a medium bowl, mix brown sugar, spices, and softened butter to form a thick paste for the filling.
- Roll risen dough into a 16×9-inch rectangle. Spread the butter/sugar mixture, leaving a border.
- Tightly roll the dough like a jelly roll and pinch seams to seal.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces using dental floss or a serrated knife.
- Place pieces cut-side up in the prepared dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes until lightly browned.
- To make the topping, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and cook until bubbling, about 2 minutes.
- Whisk in cinnamon, heavy cream, and salt. Add pecans and fold until coated. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Pour the butter pecan topping over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.
Notes
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
- Let the buns cool slightly before adding the topping to prevent it from melting too much.
- Store leftover buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
