Description

These Asian-Style Ground Beef Lettuce Wraps offer a delicious balance of flavor, freshness, and simplicity. Juicy, well-seasoned ground beef is combined with crisp vegetables and a savory-sweet Asian-inspired sauce, all served in cool butter lettuce leaves. They are perfect for quick weeknight dinners, lunches, or appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • ½ red bell pepper, finely diced
  • ½ cup shredded carrots
  • 1 head butter lettuce, leaves separated and washed
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Extra chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, crushed red pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the browned beef. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef. Stir well to coat evenly. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the meat.
  5. Stir in the chopped bell pepper, shredded carrots, and green onions. Cook for 1–2 minutes to maintain their crunch.
  6. Lay out clean, dry butter lettuce leaves. Spoon a generous portion of the ground beef mixture into the center of each leaf.
  7. Garnish each wrap with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds and extra green onions.
  8. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use gluten-free soy sauce and hoisin sauce for a gluten-free version.
  • Store the cooked beef mixture and lettuce leaves separately to prevent sogginess.
  • Adjust the spice level by modifying the amount of crushed red pepper flakes or adding sriracha.
  • This recipe can easily be adapted for keto or paleo diets by omitting or substituting the honey.
